Musselburgh call Monday inspection
Tuesday’s meeting at Musselburgh is under threat with an inspection called for 8am tomorrow.
Although a slow thaw is setting in, the course was still unraceable today.
“Things look better than we expected this morning because there is heavy snow further north, but it has been raining here on and off during the morning. That is taking the snow away and we have a lot less snow now than we had,” said clerk of the course Anthea Morshead.
“Most of the course is frost free, although there are pockets of frost here and there so we are not raceable at the moment.
“The Met Office say it will thaw today. On the pessimistic side we are forecast minus three tonight and then zero tomorrow night. Temperatures are to start rising slowly from Tuesday.
“We will have a look in the morning and see what happens today if we get rid of all the snow and take it from there.”
Racing is also due to take place at the Edinburgh track on New Year’s Day and Morshead is optimistic they will be able to start 2010 on a positive note.
“Looking ahead to our meeting on New Year’s Day, we are not meant to get further frosts from Tuesday night onwards and will stay plus one overnight and plus three to five during the day,” she went on.
“Things are looking more hopeful for us for Friday but as far as Tuesday is concerned, we still have to pass the morning inspection.”
