Haggas keen on 'improving' Azizi

Azizi gets his first taste of Pattern-race action in the Jaguar All-New XJ Autumn Stakes at Ascot, with trainer William Haggas expecting the improving colt to acquit himself well.

The beautifully-bred son of Haafhd has won three of his five starts to date and comes into Saturday’s race on the back of a comfortable Doncaster success.

The juvenile relished the step up to a mile that day and Haggas believes he still has more to offer as he gains further experience.

“He improved for the longer trip in the nursery last time and he’s ready for a rise in grade,” said the trainer.

“It’s a competitive race but he’s an improving horse. He’s yet to encounter ease underfoot but Richard (Hills, jockey) feels he will be fine on it.”

Frozen Power returns to the track for the Group Three heat having finished seventh over the same course and distance in the Royal Lodge Stakes last month.

The Godolphin-owned colt had previously won three on the bounce, including a taking performance in a Listed race at Deauville.

“Frozen Power is a nice colt and he has progressed well throughout the season,” trainer Saeed bin Suroor told www.godolphin.com.

“He was a bit unlucky on his latest start but he has been doing some nice work at home. He deserves to take the step up in class and I think that he goes back to Ascot with a good chance.”
