Cavalry charge for Arc
Stacelita and the well-fancied Cavalryman have been supplemented for Sunday’s Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp.
Jean-Claude Rouget’s Stacelita was fortunate to maintain her unbeaten record in the Prix Vermeille after coming off second best against Dar Re Mi, being awarded the race after an inquiry.
Andre Fabre’s Cavalryman, who runs in the colours of Godolphin’s French operation, has taken a traditional route to the big race after winning the Prix Niel under Frankie Dettori. He also won the Grand Prix de Paris earlier in the season.
However, Michael Bell has decided not to supplement dual Oaks winner Sariska due to the prospect of quickish ground.
One horse was removed from the list, Alain de Royer-Dupre’s Alpine Rose who is expected to head for the Prix de l’Opera instead.
As a result, there are 20 intended runners, the maximum field, with one more chance for connections to withdraw horses tomorrow morning.
John Oxx will now be hoping Sea The Stars is done some favours in the draw with such a big field.
