Red Rocks bidding for Breeders' Cup place

Red Rocks bids to earn his passage for a fourth successive run at the Breeders’ Cup when he lines-up for the Grosvenor Casinos Cumberland Lodge Stakes at Ascot on Sunday.

The six-year-old, winner of the Turf in 2006 and third and 10th in the last two renewals, runs for the first time since rejoining the Brian Meehan stable.

He is back with the Manton-based trainer after disappointing in the Dubai Sheema Classic in March when in the care of Mark Hennig.

“We rested Red Rocks up and have just been getting him ready to get back to a racecourse,” said Meehan.

“I would be reasonably confident that we can get him back to his best. He’s one of those horses who has always been full of class and he has been working well at home.

“We will see how he goes on his racecourse return before deciding where to go with him but the Breeders’ Cup Turf is certainly an option for him at the moment.”

A total of 13 horses are declared for Sunday’s Group Three, including Godolphin’s Campanologist, last year’s Breeders’ Cup Marathon hero Muhannak, the Queen’s Kingdom Of Fife, the former Aidan O’Brien-trained Masterofthehorse and the Marcus Tregoning-trained pair of Ajhar and Mawatheeq.
