Getaway team target Pasquier

Stephane Pasquier is in demand to ride Getaway in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe.

Stephane Pasquier is in demand to ride Getaway in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe.

The French jockey is twice a winner on the Jens Hirschberger-trained six-year-old and may get the chance to renew their acquaintance next month.

Pasquier is, however, retained jockey to owner Khalid Abdullah in France and could be obliged to ride either Michael Stoute’s Spanish Moon or Crossharbour – should the duo make the final line-up.

Although Spanish Moon was ridden by Ryan Moore to victory in the Prix Foy at the weekend, the champion jockey may instead take the reins of stablemate Conduit.

Hirschberger said: “We like Stephane Pasquier and want him to ride, but it is just a question of his commitments with Juddmonte.

“I think they have Spanish Moon and Crossharbour still in the race, so it is a question of what Khalid Abdullah and his racing team do.

“Stephane is a very good jockey and knows the horse very well.”

Pasquier won the Arc in 2006 aboard the Abdullah-owned Rail Link.

Getaway will be attempting to make it third-time lucky in the Arc, having finished a respective fourth and eighth in the last two renewals.

The former Andre Fabre inmate enjoyed an ideal Arc prep earlier this month when landing the Group One Grosser Preis von Baden in Germany, in which Youmzain finished third.

Hirschberger added: “He’s fine and well, but his run in the Arc is very much depending on the ground.

“If the ground is firm, he will not run because he really needs the ground good to soft.

“He is like a lot of the Monsun horses as they need cut in the ground.

“He is very fit and we were extremely happy with him after Baden-Baden.”

Plans remain fluid for Spanish Moon, who handsomely defeated Vision D’Etat by three-quarters of a length in the Prix Foy.

Teddy Grimthorpe, racing manager for Khalid Abdullah, said: “The Arc is a possibility, but I’ve got to discuss that with Sir Michael (Stoute) and, more importantly, with Prince Khalid.

“There’s no decision on him yet.”

Getaway is as low as 14-1 to win the October 4 showpiece, while Spanish Moon is as big as 20s.
