Border heads Gold Cup weights
Robin Bastiman’s dual Nunthorpe Stakes hero Borderlescott has been handed top weight of 10st 4lb in the William Hill Ayr Gold Cup on September 19.
The popular seven-year-old would have to shoulder the welter burden if the Wetherby handler decided to let his charge attempt to go one better than in 2006 when he carried 9st 10lb in defeat behind Fonthill Road.
Twelve months later he was unplaced carrying 2lb more.
Great St Wilfrid runner-up Tamagin has been allotted 9st 9lb, with winner Markab on 9st 4lb.
Roger Charlton’s Stewards’ Cup scorer Genki has been handed 9st 3lb, with Knot In Wood on 9st 8lb.
Ancien Regime (9st 5lb) and Redford (9st 2lb) are other notable entries in the valuable handicap.
