Shimah sent to stud

Shimah has been retired to Derrinstown Stud in Co Kildare after her unsuccessful bid for the stanjames.com 1000 Guineas.

The daughter of Storm Cat, owned by Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum, was unsuited by the ground when a disappointing 11th to the same owner’s Ghanaati at Newmarket in May.

That turned out to be her only run as a three-year-old following a highly promising juvenile career when she won a maiden and a Listed race at the Curragh before finishing second to Again in the Group One Moyglare Stud Stakes there.

“Shimah was retired to Derrinstown Stud about a fortnight ago,” said trainer Kevin Prendergast.

“She got pretty jarred up in Newmarket – the ground was very fast. It was decided to ease her off and send her to stud.

“I’m not sure what they will do with her. She may go to America to be covered by one of their own stallions.

“She was a very good filly, she was top of the pops.”
