McEvoy reaches milestone

Australian jockey Kerrin McEvoy registered the 1000th winner of his career at Randwick today when partnering Bright Mind to victory.

McEvoy, who enjoyed a successful spell with Godolphin as second jockey to Frankie Dettori, is now retained by Sheikh Mohammed’s Darley Stud to ride their extensive army of horses in Australia.

Bright Mind was formerly trained by John Gosden and McEvoy has really found the key to him as the pair have won three races since last August.

“If it couldn’t be one of Darley’s then I’m grateful to do it on Bright Mind,” McEvoy told www.racenet.com.au.

“It’s good to get it done.

“It’s a thrill, a personal milestone and now we’ll start on the next 1000.”

McEvoy won his first race at St Arnaud in 1997 and went on to become the second youngest jockey to ever lift the Melbourne Cup on Brew in 2000.

During his four years in Europe he won 11 Group One races including the 2004 St Leger on Godolphin’s Rule Of Law.
