Delegator set for summer break

Brian Meehan's gallant St James's Palace Stakes runner-up Delegator is to enjoy a mid-season break before being prepared for a campaign later in the year.

Having won the Craven, finished second in the 2000 Guineas and run in the Irish Guineas before Ascot, Meehan is keen to give his colt a rest.

He is likely to be prepared for the Prix Jacques le Marois while a drop in trip has not been ruled out.

"Delegator ran another great race, just as he did in the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket," said Meehan.

"It is always frustrating to finish second but we were very pleased with the performance.

"He has now had four races this season, so we have decided to give him a break. The plan after that is to consider the options in the second half of the season with the Group One Prix Jacques Le Marois at Deauville as a possible launching point in mid-August.

"We will certainly consider a step back to six furlongs at some stage but the July Cup, we feel, will come a little too soon after the St James's Palace.

"We will think about it over the next week or two and we would not rule out tackling one of the big six-furlong events in the late summer or early autumn," he told his website, www.brianmeehanatmanton.com.
