Hughes aims high with Rare Bob

Rare Bob is set to bid for glory in the top three-mile chases next season following his victory in the Champion Novice Chase at Punchestown on Tuesday.

Trainer Dessie Hughes feels that is the way to go after the seven-year-old swept to victory by a length and three-quarters from Scottish National runner-up Gone To Lunch.

His triumph came just 15 days after a fine run when he was fourth to Niche Market in the Irish Grand National at Fairyhouse.

“He’s fine after the race and he came good at last,” said the Co. Kildare handler.

“He ran real well to the turn-in in the Irish National.

“He’ll probably be in Grade Ones next season, by the looks of things.”
