Young Albert snatches win for Geraghty

Young Albert built on his fifth-place finish in the John Smith’s People’s Race last weekend to snatch victory in the Sports 360 Leaders In Sports Advertising “Fixed Brush” Handicap Hurdle at Haydock.

Local owner Trevor Hemmings’ green and yellow quartered colours were spotted down the field in the charity event at Aintree exactly seven days ago, but fared much better when donned by Barry Geraghty on the opposite end of Merseyside.

Laustra Bad and Chance Du Roy were enjoying their own battle up the straight and didn’t count on the Nicky Richards-trained 5-1 favourite finishing with a late rattle to steal the first prize by a length and a quarter.

“I hadn’t sat on him before but he jumped very well,” commented Geraghty.

“I knew we had a chance jumping the last, and the other two going on gave me something to run at.”
