Charlie set for May comeback

Horris Hill Stakes runner-up Bonnie Charlie is still a few weeks away from his seasonal reappearance.

The Richard Hannon-trained chestnut did not get the clearest of runs in the Newbury Group Three but closed to within half a length of Evasive. He was also second in the Molecomb and the St Leger Yearling Stakes.

James Stafford, racing manager of owners Thurloe Thoroughbreds, said: “He’s not in the Guineas but he is on his way back, hopefully for the end of May.

“I’m not sure where he will start off, there is still the possibility of one of the overseas Guineas.”

Thurloe have 12 two-year-olds, nine three-year-olds and a few other older horses, jumpers and a couple in training overseas.

Unfortunately though a leading light from last season, Henry Candy’s sprinter Corrybrough, is not likely to be out quite so soon.

Stafford added: “He has had a little bit of a setback and hopefully will be back for the middle of the season.

“Silk Hall, who ran very well at Aintree last week (when fifth to El Dancer in the Top Novices’ Hurdle) might have one more run on the Flat before he is put away.”
