Frost claims Musselburgh

This afternoon’s meeting at Musselburgh has been abandoned due to frost following a second inspection.

Two checks yesterday proved inconclusive but when officials looked at 8am this morning, hopes were high that temperatures would rise in time.

However, the cloud disappeared and temperatures dipped once more.

“Sadly we’ve had to abandon,” said clerk of the course Anthea Morshead.

“At 5.30am it started raining and it was well above freezing as we had cloud cover.

“However, that cloud cleared and the temperatures dropped. At 12 noon it is only supposed to be around plus two.

“If the cloud had stayed we would probably have been able to race.

“We’ll be applying for extra fixtures and we’ll do everything we can to get them.”
