No joy for McCoy at Taunton

Tony McCoy was out of luck on his only ride at Taunton as Adare Prince was pulled up a long way from home in the Carlsberg UK Handicap Chase.

The 13-times champion jockey is still searching for the 3,000th winner of his career having being stuck on the 2,998 mark since last Thursday.

He was set to head to Huntingdon for a good book of rides this afternoon but when that meeting was abandoned, he switched to Taunton for just the one mount.

The Philip Hobbs-trained eight-year-old travelled well for much of the contest but dropped out down the back straight and failed to complete the course.

McCoy said: “When I was going to Huntingdon I wasn’t particularly worried about missing the ride on him.

“They did well to get a win out of him at Hereford but I had to come here as he is owned by the boss (JP McManus).

“It’s been a pretty quiet few days really as there has been nothing on at all.”

However, McCoy will get the chance to get a welcome winner on the board after he picked up the ride on You Know Bridie for Neil Mulholland in the concluding Trull Mares’ Handicap Hurdle.
