Friday's Newbury card abandoned

Friday’s meeting at Newbury has been abandoned due to a waterlogged track.

Clerk of the course Richard Osgood delivered the bad news having staged a hasty inspection on Thursday morning.

He said: “The course is waterlogged and unsafe for racing.

“There is standing water on the track and we have had 15mm of rain on Wednesday night.

“With further rain forecast, it was pointless delaying the decision.”
