Frost claims Catterick, Ayr

Catterick have abandoned their New Year’s Day meeting after the track failed to pass an 8am inspection while Ayr's weekend card has also been abandoned.

Catterick have abandoned their New Year’s Day meeting after the track failed to pass an 8am inspection.

Clerk of the course at Catterick Fiona Needham was left with no option but to call off the fixture following an overnight frost.

She said: “We got down to minus four overnight and we are still below freezing now. We are not forecast to get above freezing until 2pm so we have had to abandon.”

At Ayr, clerk of the course Katherine Self was forced to call off their two-day fixture after a 9.30am inspection on Thursday showed the venue to be unraceable.

She said: “The track is completely frozen. We got down to minus four last night and we have another minus five forecast tonight.

“We have no chance of racing on either day so we have had to abandon.”

This afternoon's meeting at Exeter however goes ahead after the track passed an inspection.
