Catterick have called a precautionary inspection for 8am ahead of their New Year’s Day fixture.

Clerk of the course Fiona Needham reports the track to be fit for racing at present but is anticipating another cold night at the North Yorkshire venue.

She said: “We are raceable at the moment but the thermometer says we dropped to minus four overnight, although it was only an air frost and the ground is not frozen.

“If we can maintain cloud cover we will be fine, but we are forecast to drop to between minus one and three tonight so we felt it prudent to take a look.

“I would certainly be more hopeful of racing now than when I looked at the forecast at the start of the week.”
