Henry de Bromhead reports Sizing Europe to be in fine fettle following his comeback at Punchestown last month and all roads now lead to the December Festival Hurdle at Leopardstown.

The six-year-old, an impressive winner of last season’s AIG Champion Hurdle, proved a disappointment in the Champion Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival back in March but it soon transpired that it was injury that had scuppered his chance.

He seemed to be as good as ever when chasing home Hardy Eustace in the Maplewoods Development Hurdle on his comeback and De Bromhead could not have been happier with his subsequent progress.

“He seems in great form at the moment and I’m very, very pleased with him,” said the trainer.

“We were thrilled with him last time and I do think he will have come on for that run. We will definitely have a look at Leopardstown at Christmas and the owner would like to go there so that is a plan.

“Hopefully then he would go back to the AIG (January 25) but it is very much about taking one race at a time.

“He seems well, is moving well but we do just take it one day at a time with him.”
