Haydock cool over frost threat

The prospect of the first frost of winter on the eve of Saturday’s meeting is not concerning Haydock officials.

The prospect of the first frost of winter on the eve of Saturday’s meeting is not concerning Haydock officials.

“The forecast is typical November weather – raw, the odd shower and as the weekend approaches we may get a frost on Friday night,” said clerk of the course Kirkland Tellwright.

“I think we’ll be fine. We’re forecast minus two and it will be the first frost, so I can’t believe it will be a problem to us – but we are monitoring the situation.”

The going is described as good to soft, good in places on the chase and brush hurdles course and good, good to firm in places on the traditional hurdle and bumper track.

Saturday’s card at the Merseyside track, the first day of the Northwest Racing Masters, features the £225,000 Betfair Chase – which 2007 Cheltenham Gold Cup hero Kauto Star will bid to win for the third year running.
