No stopping red-hot Hannon

Richard Hannon is not resting on his laurels after his hugely successful raid on the Goffs Million sales races in Ireland over the weekend and sent out yet another juvenile winner courtesy of Sequillo at Windsor.

Hannon’s two-year-olds have surpassed all expectations this year, and the trainer netted over £1.5m (€1.8m) as Soul City and Minor Vamp scored at the Curragh on Sunday.

While many would have painted the town red in the following hours, Hannon kept the celebrations low key and headed back to the track to saddle the 2-1 favourite to success under Richard Hughes in the Get Your Chips At williamhillpoker.com Nursery.

Hannon, registering his 79th British juvenile win of the campaign after an earlier winner at Brighton, said: “We had a couple of drinks and a bit of Indian food last night, and that was it.

“Soul City is still in the Dewhurst, but I would be keen to finish him for the year.”

He added of Sequillo: “This is not a bad horse and he will be a nice sort next year as he is big and weak at the moment.

“I might give him one more run or just leave him until next year.”

Hannon, who was also on the mark at Bath, made it four for the day at combined odds of 311-1 as Hughes brought Higgy’s Boy (8-1) home in the closing Fast Track Handicap.

The trainer-jockey combination also went close in the Real Time Radio At williamhill.co.uk Maiden Stakes as Special Reserve lost out by a neck to William Haggas’ Majeen.

Memphis Man (18-1) is a regular on the racecourse having raced 30 times this year and he landed his second race of 2008 in the Get On With William Hill - 0800 444040 Handicap.

Trainer David Evans said: “That was a surprise, but a nice one. He deserves to be horse of the year as he runs about twice a week and thrives on it.

“He ran a good race at Goodwood last week and wants really soft ground but keeps going up in the handicap.”

After a series of runs over seven furlongs, Flintlock appreciated a drop in distance as he comfortably made all in division one of the Get A Bonus At williamhillcasino.com EBF Maiden Stakes.

Representing the connections of QEII winner Raven’s Pass, the John Gosden-trained 13-8 favourite was always in command and passed the post a length and three-quarters to the good.

Winning rider Jimmy Fortune said: “That was very straightforward. He showed plenty of speed and coming back to six furlongs suited him.”

Enact, representing Michael Stoute and Cheveley Park Stud, defied negative market vibes to score at the first time of asking in division two.

Having opened at 4-1, she drifted out to her starting price of 11-2 before overcoming her draw in stall one to run out a length-and-a-quarter winner in the hands of Ryan Moore.

Stoute’s travelling head lad Jimmy Scott said: “She did it well considering her draw, and she is a lovely actioned filly.

“She was a little immature early on so we gave her plenty of time.”

Abuelito John (7-1) was sold to Claes Bjorling for 11,200 guineas after taking the Bugler Homes Selling Stakes by two and a quarter lengths.
