O'Connor wins Chantilly Grand Prix
Ireland's Cian O'Connor has won the four-star Grand Prix at Chantilly, France, with Aileen Bryan's 10-year-old gelding Rancorrado.
The Kildare-born rider has had several good results at the French show with Dermot O'Rourke's mare 'Baloufina', including a speed class win yesterday, but this evening he notched up two clear rounds and crossed the line half a second ahead of Dutch challenger Marc Houtzager to claim the €20,000 Grand Prix prize.
The 28 year-old rider said: "It's been a great show all round, in a beautiful setting in the grounds of the castle here at Chantilly. All my horses did well, but I think last week's competitions at Spruce Meadows in Canada have brought out the best in Rancorrado. He jumped this course easily today."
O'Connor also received Chantilly's Leading Rider award to add to his rosettes.
