O'Brien wins St Leger with Septimus
Aidan O’Brien completed a clean sweep of Classics on home soil when Septimus won the Irish Field St Leger at the Curragh.
The Ballydoyle maestro became the first trainer since 1935 to win all five in the same year thanks to the classy four-year-old.
Seamus Heffernan pushed Septimus into the lead over two furlongs after stablemates Mikhail Fokine and New Zealand had set a strong pace.
The 1-3 shot quickly put the race to bed as he he galloped away from his rivals in tremendous style to win unchallenged by 13 lengths.
New Zealand (40-1) stuck on well for second with Kevin Prendergast’s Red Moloney (25-1) third.
