Injury woe for Jockey Sanders
Joint-champion jockey Seb Sanders faces a spell on the sidelines after being taken to hospital with a suspected broken leg from a horrific fall at Chester.
Sanders was aboard Luca Cumani’s Speed Gifted in the corbettsports.com Chester Handicap and was thrown to the ground as Sir Duke clipped heels and fell three furlongs out – bringing down his mount and Cheshire Prince in the process.
Sir Duke’s jockey Pat Dobbs and Dean Heslop, rider of Cheshire Prince, escaped injury but Sanders was transported to the Countess of Chester Hospital for X-rays.
Clerk of the course Ed Gretton confirmed: “Seb is fundamentally OK, but has been taken to hospital for checks on a suspected injury to his leg.”
Sir Duke suffered serious injures and had to be put down.
The Listed event went to Richard Mullen aboard Sir Michael Stoute’s Red Gala, who kept on well to deny the strong-finishing Strategic Mount by half a length.
