Censored following family tradition
Censored did her paddock value the world of good when getting off the mark at the third attempt in the Di Goldsmith’s 60th Birthday Celebration Maiden Fillies’ Stakes at Sandown.
As a half-sister to French Oaks winner Confidential Lady, anything achieved on the racecourse is a plus and in winning by nine lengths, she certainly hinted at a fair sprinkling of ability of her own.
John Marsh, spokesman for owner-breeders the Cheveley Park Stud, said of the Sir Michael Stoute-trained winner: “It’s great to get a win under her belt, she’s big filly. We think she can go forward now, hopefully.”
Darryll Holland had to play second fiddle on runner-up Greyfriarsblessing in that event but still enjoyed a great day with a second successive treble.
Fresh from a hat-trick at Yarmouth 24 hours earlier, Holland booted home another trio of winners to take his tally for the year to 54.
“Another treble, fantastic! I’m on a bit of a run and I feel I’m riding really well. It’s good and you’ve got to keep the momentum up,” said Holland.
His three-timer came up in the feature race of the day, the Moneycorp Currency Canter Handicap, on Keep Discovering (9-2) for Mark Johnston.
After tracking the pacesetting Salient, Holland pushed his mount into the lead a furlong out and the combination went on to score by a length and a quarter from 7-2 joint-favourite Signor Peltro.
“It was tacky old ground today and you’ve got to have the pace right. They went quick enough on the last winner I had so I just sat second,” Holland went on.
He kicked off with a double on two favourites trained by Mick Channon.
First up for Holland was Tadalavil (6-4 favourite), who got home by two and a three-quarter lengths from Beat The Bell in the Gentlemen’s Day On 8th November Handicap, and he then quickly followed up on Too Much Trouble (15-8 favourite).
The latter, who beat Miss Sophisticat a length and a quarter in the EBF Maiden Stakes, impressed the jockey.
“I thought the two-year-old was a nice horse, he’s a good, galloping type,” he added.
