Beverley double for Ffrench
Royston Ffrench made a brilliant recovery on Divine Spirit to complete a double at Beverley.
The jockey somehow managed to stay in the saddle when Michael Dods' veteran sprinter stumbled on leaving the stalls in the Rawfield Handicap.
Amazingly they lost little ground and were soon in midfield before Ffrench launched Divine Spirit to make his challenge inside the final quarter-mile.
Leading close home, the 5-1 joint-favourite won by a length from Green Park with Gallery Girl a short head away.
"I thought I was going to hit the floor because he stumbled at the start and I did well to stay on, but we got our act together and to win was marvellous," said Ffrench.
He set up his 50-1 brace on the Mark Johnston-trained Beautiful Breeze (15-2) in the EBF "Female" Maiden Stakes.
The Tobougg colt appreciated the step up to an extended seven furlongs after finishing third on his debut at Redcar two weeks ago.
However, he had to be kept up to his work to hold the favourite Cosmic Sun by a neck with The Kyllachy Kid third.
Cosmic Sun's rider Paul Hanagan was banned for one day (August 27) for using his whip with excessive frequency and he also got one day (August 28) for careless riding on Green Park.
Hanagan could not be left out and he landed a near 15-1 double on Let It Be and Roof Fiddle.
Let It Bet (9-2) kept Ffrench's mount Estate by three-quarters of a length in the WBX.COM Handicap.
"I thought the rain would have had done us, but she's game as a pebble," said winning trainer Keith Reveley.
"There was no pace and she kicked on first - the one thing she does is keeping going."
Irish raider Roof Fiddle (15-8 joint favourite), from Kevin Prendergast's stable, made a winning debut under Hanagan from Red Rosanna in the Mail News And Media Maiden Stakes.
Ffrench went within a whisker of making it a treble when he was touched off on Maha Dubai by Highland Love in the East Riding Mail Handicap.
Tony Hamilton pulled out all the stops on Jedd O'Keeffe's Highland Love, the 9-4 favourite, to win by a short head. Coral Shores was just a neck back in third.
Neil Callan brought Le Chiffre, the 4-1 favourite, with a late run to deny Nok Twice in the Journal Claiming Stakes by three-quarters of a length.
Winning trainer John Harris said: "We've had 18 winners on the turf and 26 winners altogether, so this is our best ever year.
"The key to this horse is the ground. He's a horse that also needs cover."
Jimmy Quinn took the concluding Findaproperty Handicap on Red Fama (8-1) for Malton trainer Neville Bycroft by a length and a quarter from Edas.
