Kotsi makes Salisbury return
Kotsi has been declared to make her racecourse return after a two-month break in the Listed European Breeders’ Fund Upavon Fillies’ Stakes at Salisbury on Wednesday.
Fine performances in several Group races last term did a lot for the profile of her young trainer Ed Vaughan but the daughter of Nayef is now on something of a recovery mission.
She was second to subsequent Oaks fourth Clowance on her seasonal return at Newbury but could not make any impression in another race at the Berkshire track in June, finishing last.
Kotsi is one of 13 fillies involved at Salisbury where there is a surprise runner from French maestro Andre Fabre. He has booked Ryan Moore for In The Light.
Of Kotsi, Vaughan said: “She seems in much better form now but I just wouldn’t run her if the ground was very soft.
“She had a long spell off after her disappointing run at Newbury last time and we have saved her for an autumn campaign.
“It was just one of those things at Newbury – her work had never been better before the race – but it was just a real off day.
“We are also still trying to work out her best trip, whether it is a mile and a quarter or whether she will need a mile and a half.”
