Low weight a gift for Penny
Richard Hannon has nominated Royal Ascot runner-up Penny’s Gift as the pick of his eight candidates for Saturday’s Weatherbys Super Sprint at Newbury.
The five-furlong dash has made its way back to Hannon’s Marlborough base no less than six times since its inception in 1991, and the Albany second heads a typically strong team this time around.
After finishing runner-up to Jim Bolger’s Cuis Ghaire last month, the filly will drop back to the minimum trip this weekend.
At this early stage, she could be joined by stablemates Barnezet, Doughnut, Infamous Angel, Pure Poetry, Rebecca De Winter, Robin The Till and Souter’s Sister.
Hannon said: “I haven’t had a look at the race yet but we have a few in there, including Penny’s Gift, and they will have a job to beat her off 8st.
“Doughnut is in there and she is quick. Infamous Angel is another with plenty of speed but a couple of mine may get balloted out.”
