Inventor swoops for Haydock prize

Inventor came with a late run to deny long-time leader Laterly in the Bet365 Best Odds Handicap at Haydock.

Micky Fenton’s mount, a 25-1 chance, looked like making all but Alan Munro brought Inventor (20-1) with a telling charge to get up close home and win by a length.

Daraahem (20-1) was five lengths back in third as outsiders filled the first three places.

“Alan rode a cracking race, the horses were flying. We had two winners on Thursday, two on Friday and now a winner today,” said Patrick MacEwan, assistant to trainer Brian Meehan.

“The horses are fit and healthy, that’s the most important thing.

“The ground was too firm for him here last time, he likes to get his toe in.”
