New Approach will be assessed on Monday as connections hope to ascertain the nature and extent of the injury that forced him to miss the Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby.

Jim Bolger’s star, winner of the English equivalent earlier in the month, was being closely monitored in the run-up to Sunday’s Curragh Classic after it was discovered he was not 100% comfortable on Friday.

Bolger, who made the decision to miss the Irish Derby on the morning of the race, said: “The horse is still not sound and it may not be his foot.

“We will take him for scans and X-rays tomorrow and we will know more after that.

“He wasn’t sound enough for racing today but we left it to the last minute and made the decision at eight o’clock this morning.

“It could still be a bruise, but I can categorically say it’s not a stone bruise as we don’t have any stones.”

Bolger added future running plans are up in the air at present and said New Approach will not be confirmed for Saturday’s Coral-Eclipse, in which he currently holds an entry.
