Thulliez hopes for quick getaway

Getaway aims for redemption and his first Group One victory in Sunday’s Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud.

The impressive winner of the Jockey Club Stakes was sent off a warm favourite for the Coronation Cup but looked all at sea at Epsom, eventually finishing fifth behind Aidan O’Brien’s Soldier Of Fortune.

The latter will again figure among Getaway’s rivals on Sunday, while trainer Andre Fabre has booked a new jockey for the giant five-year-old in Thierry Thulliez because usual partner Stephane Pasquier is required for Zambezi Sun.

“Mr Fabre seems to be pleased with him and we are back on more of a level playing field on Sunday, so let’s see what happens,” said Paul Harley, racing manager for Getaway’s owner Baron Von Ullmann.

“The usual riders are not available but Thierry is a very good substitute.

“It might have been a different case had Frankie Dettori been free but Mr Fabre decided to choose Thierry and he is good enough to do the job.”
