Drowne has faith in super Sakhee's

Steve Drowne believes Sakhee’s Secret is the one they have to beat in Saturday’s Golden Jubilee Stakes at Ascot.

The second major sprint of the week will once again see the Australian Takeover Target in action.

But Drowne, enjoying a great week thanks to the victories of Flashmans Papers and Fifteen Love, believes Hughie Morrison’s four-year-old holds all the aces.

“He’s very well. I sat on him Tuesday and he’s fresh and he’s fit,” said the jockey.

“As long as the rain stays off, which is very important because he does need a sound surface, he’s going there with a favourite’s chance,” said Drowne.

“I think everyone will be going there thinking they’ve got me to beat.”

Sakhee’s Secret finished second behind the younger Captain Gerrard over five furlongs at Newmarket on his only start this season and Drowne was delighted with that effort.

“I wasn’t disappointed he got beat on his first start – we only ran him to get a bit of the freshness out of him – as it was five furlongs and he was giving a stone to the winner. It was an excellent performance,” he told At The Races.

“If you look at his speed figures, he is well clear of anything else and I wouldn’t doubt him at all.”

Morrison would like to see the forecast rain hold off for one more day.

“He (Ascot clerk of the course Chris Stickels) has put on eight millimetres of water last night (Thursday) and at this present moment in time, I would say that it is slightly easier than it was yesterday,” said the East Ilsley handler.

“It does have time to dry up but it is not as sunny as it was yesterday. The clerk doesn’t want to make the ground loose by watering but there is a lot of rain forecast so I don’t think it would be right for him to water tonight.

“Royal Ascot is not about soft ground as we want to prove the breed and that they are sound enough to go on fast ground.”
