Lyons expecting Summit Surge to flourish
Ger Lyons expects Summit Surge to put up a bold show in the Ballycorus Stakes if the ground remains fast at Leopardstown tomorrow.
The four-year-old, winner of a Curragh handicap last month, was a late withdrawal from the Listed Glencairn Stakes over a mile on the same course last week due to soft ground.
However, the County Meath trainer was able to switch the gelding this Group Three contest over seven furlongs.
“He thrives on his racing and put on 5lb kilos after his last win in the Curragh. He takes it all really well,” said Lyons.
“I pulled him out of a Listed race at Leopardstown last week at the last minute because the ground turned soft.
“If it’s firm, or good to firm tomorrow I think he’ll run a big race.”
A field of eight includes sole English raider, the Barry Hills-trained Captain Marvelous, wile Jim Bolger saddles Akua’Ba and Dermot Weld has declared Campfire Glow.
Completing the line-up are Excelerate, Great War Eagle, Prince Shaun and Rock Of Rochelle.
