Moiqen retains Derby option

Kevin Prendergast has not ruled out the possibility of running Moiqen in the Vodafone Derby following his third at Leopardstown last weekend.

Kevin Prendergast has not ruled out the possibility of running Moiqen in the Vodafone Derby following his third at Leopardstown last weekend.

The winner of the Ballysax Stakes was no match for Dermot Weld’s impressive six-length victor Casual Conquest in Sunday’s Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial Stakes.

The Hamdan Al Maktoum-owned Moiqen also has an entry in Royal Ascot’s King Edward VII Stakes and will be assessed for the time being.

The trainer reported: “He has come out of the race OK and it was just a muddling sort of pace at Leopardstown.

“He is in the Derby but we’ll see what progress he makes over the next couple of weeks.”

The Red Ransom colt is around 33-1 for Epsom glory at this stage.
