Natagora made every yard of the running to secure a thrilling success in the stanjamesuk.com 1000 Guineas at Newmarket.

Trained by Pascal Bary and ridden by Christophe Lemaire, the 11-4 favourite stuck her neck out gamely when strongly pressed inside the final furlong.

James Fanshawe’s Spacious threw down a very serious challenge on the run to the line but Natagora found extra to repel the 11-2 chance, while Jim Bolger’s Saoirse Abu rattled home for third.

Lemaire wasted no time in sending his mount to the front and set an honest pace at the head of affairs as Muthabara kept close tabs on the leader.

Natagora quickened things appreciably at around the quarter-mile point as Infallible emerged from the pack with a strong-looking charge under Jimmy Fortune.

That Cheveley Park Stud-owned filly was closely pursued by Spacious, wearing connections’ first colours, as Nahoodh also began to come home with a wet sail.

Unfortunately, the latter had nowhere to go in behind Natagora as she found her route blocked, but the winner proved ultra-game in front and found more when it was required inside the final 200 yards.

Spacious would not give in but could only get within a half-length at the line, with Saoirse Abu claiming a close-up third.
