Walsh moves nearer jockey's crown

Ruby Walsh moved ever closer to the Irish jump jockeys’ title with victory on Twist Magic in the Kerrygold Champion Chase at Punchestown.

It was his 127th win of the season, which ends on Saturday, and took him six clear of his nearest rival Davy Russell, who took third place on Mansony behind Walsh’s winner in the feature race.

Walsh then went close to a double when Clear Riposte was caught close home by Bambootcha in the Gain Horse Feeds Handicap Hurdle in which Russell finished in the rear on his only other ride, The Duke’s Speech.

Walsh also had to settle for second best on Pomme Tiepy behind British raider Air Force One in the Ellier Developments Champion Novice Chase.

Jered’s victory in the vcbet.com Champion Novice Hurdle took trainer Noel Meade and owner JP McManus nearer to winning their respective championships.
