Dan delight for Williams
Dansimar hit the back of the net on her first start over timber with victory in the Betfredbingo Maiden Hurdle at Wincanton today.
The grey raced on the Flat for Mick Channon, but has been transferred to Venetia Williams and got her new career off to a promising start when denying 6-4 favourite Equity Release by three and three-quarter lengths.
Williams said of the 11-1 winner: "She has a lovely attitude and I am delighted as it is always a big ask for a juvenile to win first time out.
"I bought her at the Newmarket sales in the autumn and the plan was to run in the first week of March.
"She is in the Triumph but she is a far from certain runner. I'd be more likely to run her in a similar race to this and go to Aintree."
Connections of Kilrogan have bided their time waiting for better ground and that patience was rewarded as the nine-year-old sprung a 20-1 shock in the Coors Brewers Novices' Handicap Chase.
Nick Scholfield kept the top weight bowling along merrily in front on his first start for 114 days and his consistent mount was a length too good for the bottom-weighted Tosula.
Winning trainer Andrew Haynes said: "We gave him a break and freshened him up to wait for this better ground.
"It was marvellous to see him win like that and it was a lovely front-running display.
"The firmer the ground the better for him and he could keep on going through the summer."
Wun Chai recorded a double in the Betfredcasino Handicap Hurdle - although this second course-and-distance success came in much less controversial circumstances.
John Panvert's nine-year-old beat runner-up Poppy Maroon at the track 19 days ago, when the latter's jockey eased up in the closing stages having mistaken the finishing line and lost out by half a length.
The winning margin was extended this time with David England booting the 14-1 chance past Poppy Maroon over the final flight to see off his old adversary by 10 lengths.
Rudivale was third when the pair last clashed and occupied the same position again.
Owner Graham Brown said: "I have watched the tape 20 times now and I do think we were going just that bit better last time and would have won anyway.
"No-one seemed to fancy him today apart from me, and that is the second time we have come here now and beaten 20 others."
Panvert added: "I have been at my new base in Tiverton for about two and a half months now and it is a great place with lovely gallops."
