Andrew Thornton will miss the ride on Simon in the John Smith’s Grand National after learning his shoulder injury is more serious than first thought.

Thornton was originally diagnosed with a dislocated shoulder after his tumble at Kempton last Saturday and although he had ruled out the Cheltenham Festival, he hoped be back for Aintree in April.
