Fontwell run to confirm My Way plans
My Way De Solzen faces his very own ’D-Day’ at Fontwell on Sunday, with trainer Alan King not yet ruling out a return to fences in the Ryanair Chase at the Cheltenham Festival.
Last year’s Arkle winner has produced two below-par performances this term and will now revert to timber in the totesport.com National Spirit Hurdle at the weekend.
With options very much open, King could yet divert the eight-year-old to the Ladbrokes World hurdle at Prestbury Park – a race he landed in 2006.
“I am aware things have not gone according to plan,” said the Wiltshire trainer.
“He has had a break since the King George, we’ve treated him for ulcers and his work remains very good.
“He probably needed the run in the Betfair Chase and the King George was the one bad run really. I was mortified that day – he never travelled.
“We will take him to Fontwell on Sunday and until we have got that out of the way we are not confirming any plans.
“He has three entries – the Queen Mother, the World Hurdle and the Ryanair Chase.
“The way Paul Nicholls’ horses are running, the Queen Mother is very unlikely, so if he ran well it would be either the World Hurdle or the Ryanair.”
Should My Way De Solzen attempt to regain his World Hurdle crown, he will be joined by stable companion Blazing Bailey on March 13.
However, King feels they may both be playing for second based on the way Inglis Drever thrashed the latter in last month’s Cleeve Hurdle.
“Blazing Bailey is a model of consistency and it was probably a very good performance when he was beaten by Inglis Drever,” he said.
“If he turns up in the same form he will be impossible to beat, but we should be there or thereabouts.”
