Green light for Ascot

Ascot’s precautionary inspection this morning was cancelled after only half a millimetre of rain fell overnight.

Officials had been optimistic on Friday as conditions were drying up throughout the day but an even dryer night than anticipated meant that there was no need for the early check.

“Racing goes ahead,” said clerk of the course Chris Stickels.

“We only had half a millimetre of rain overnight so the going is soft, heavy in places.

“We are expecting some rain later today but we should be able to cope with what comes now.”
