McCoy 'stable' after Warwick fall
Tony McCoy is in a “stable” condition at University Hospital Walsgrave in Coventry after a nasty incident at Warwick.
The champion jockey was riding Arnold Layne for Caroline Bailey in the day’s feature race, the totesport.com Classic Chase.
The pair were still in contention when the 3-1 favourite fell at the 14th fence in the three-mile-five-furlong race.
McCoy was immediately attended to at the scene before being lifted into an ambulance on a stretcher.
He was then taken to hospital to be assessed and a spokeswoman said this evening: “He’s stable. He’s conscious and talking.
“He’s still being assessed and looked at, but he is conscious and talking.
“When we asked him if we could give out a condition check he said ’tell them I’m OK’.
“But as yet we are not quite sure what his injuries are.”
Clerk of the course Fiona Needham had earlier said: “Tony is going to Walsgrave Hospital in Coventry for further assessment to his lower back.”
