Ascot gets the go ahead
This afternoon’s fixture at Ascot has been given the go-ahead after the track passed a third inspection at 11.30am.
Clerk of the course Chris Stickels initially held a precautionary inspection at 7.30am, after which he was forced to hold a second check at 10.00 with frost in parts of the ground.
Temperatures, which had dipped as low as minus two and a half degrees overnight, began to warm steadily and officials remained positive regarding prospects despite only gradual improvement.
Following the inconclusive second look, Stickels called a third inspection for 11.30, which saw a deputation of jockeys walk the course along with officials.
And temperatures had risen sufficiently by that point for the meeting to be given a belated green light.
Nick Smith, head of public relations said: “It’s good news as we’re on as scheduled.
“A few of the jockeys went out to have a look and we’re fine – there aren’t any problems.”
