Nicholls reassures Denman backers

Paul Nicholls has confirmed Denman to be in tip-top shape, despite a wobble in the ante-post markets for the Lexus Chase.

The hugely-impressive winner of the Hennessy Gold Cup drifted to well over odds-against on betting exchange Betfair for his next intended target at Leopardstown on December 28.

Some bookmakers suspended their markets, but Nicholls has stressed there is nothing amiss.

“He is absolutely 100% fine,” said the Ditcheat handler.

“I have a feeling I know where this came from, as he coughed a couple of times on the Tuesday morning after the Hennessy.

“But he has worked every day since, he worked this morning and is fine.”

Denman continues to dispute favouritism for the totesport Cheltenham Gold Cup with stablemate and current holder Kauto Star, with the pair both at 2-1 with the sponsor.
