Championship rivals hit the target

Seb Sanders still leads Jamie Spencer by two in the race for the jockeys’ championship as the pair each rode one winner on Tuesday.

Spencer headed to Yarmouth for seven rides and it was a length-and-a-quarter success on the Andy Haynes-trained Seneschal (6-1) that got him off the mark in the Banham Poultry Handicap.

It was not until the last race at Lingfield that Sir Mark Prescott gave Sanders a helping hand with 4-5 favourite Spanish Conquest in the arenaleisureplc.com Handicap.

However, Spencer is now the new 8-11 favourite with Coral to be crowned champion, with Sanders eased to even-money from 5-6.

“Although he still trails by two, the momentum does appear to be with Jamie Spencer at present,” said Coral’s David Stevens.

“And with no trip to Melbourne to occupy his time, we now just favour him to end the season on top.”
