Bolger takes bold approach

Jim Bolger has given the strongest hint yet that his unbeaten colt New Approach will line-up in the Darley Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket next weekend.

Already reported to be on course for the Group One event are Solario Stakes winner Raven’s Pass and Acomb winner Fast Company while Godolphin’s Rio De La Plata is also under "strong consideration" for the race.

But Bolger, who suggested after the Galileo colt won the National Stakes at the Curragh that he was finished for the year, looks like being tempted in to one more run.

“He is more likely than not going to run in the Dewhurst, as a lot of people would be disappointed if he didn’t go there,” said Bolger.

“People keep asking me at the races is he going to run in the Dewhurst and should we book our tickets, and a lot of people across the water would be disappointed also if we stayed at home,” he told the Racing Post.

Another likely to be in the line-up is Mark Johnston’s impressive Champagne Stakes winner McCartney.

“McCartney is very well and ready to go – the Darley Dewhurst Stakes is the plan,” said the Middleham trainer.

“He is in great shape. I don’t see any reason why the Dewhurst shouldn’t suit him. He has shown a lot of speed – hence the decision to stay at seven furlongs.

“The horse should handle any ground but you always prefer to see good fast ground,” he told www.newmarketracecourses.co.uk.
