Gale to rest on its laurels
Prix Marcel Boussac disappointment Laureldean Gale looks set to be put away for the year after her relative no-show at Longchamp.
Formerly with Peter Chapple-Hyam, the Grand Slam filly was purchased by Godolphin after chasing home subsequent Fillies’ Mile runner-up Proviso at Deauville in August.
Sent off the 6-5 favourite on her first appearance for Saeed bin Suroor in Paris on Sunday, Laureldean Gale could only finish a well-beaten eighth of 10 behind impressive scorer Zarkava.
Bin Suroor commented: “Laureldean Gale got a bit upset beforehand and was too keen in the race.
“The result was disappointing. We will take her back to Dubai and start again,” he told www.godolphin.com.
Laureldean Gale can now be backed at 20-1 with Paddy Power for next year’s 1000 Guineas, for which the Andre Fabre-trained Proviso heads the market at 7-1 with the same firm.
