Jake Payne was taken to Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham after being unshipped from Puskas in the Betfair Apprentice Handicap at the track.

Payne, who was claiming 7lb aboard the Milton Bradley-trained Puskas, suffered the spill after his saddle slipped over two furlongs from home and was immediately taken to hospital.

“We haven’t had an update but he was conscious when he left the racecourse,” said clerk of the course Nick Patton.

In an incident-packed race, Bobby Rose secured a narrow victory at 13-2, holding off the Adele Rothery-partnered Choreography by a neck.

Rothery was subsequently hit with a four-day ban for using her whip with excessive frequency and hitting her mount down the shoulder.

She will sit out October 14-17 inclusive, while William Carson will be out of action on October 14 and 15 after being found guilty of using his whip with excessive frequency on third-placed Plateau.
