Swail triumphant in Gijon Grand Prix
CO. DOWN -born Conor Swail walked away with the Grand Prix trophy at the five-star show in Gijon, Spain tonight after two fault-free rounds on the nine year-old Dutch-bred ‘Rivaal’.
Swail, the only Irish contestant in the final competition of the weekend at Gijon, was just fractions of a second faster that Belgian runner-up Philippe Lejeune in a 41-strong field, and collected €42,000 for his efforts.
Thirty-five year-old Swail is currently based at Malahide, Co. Dublin, and was also a member of the Irish Nations' Cup team who finished fourth at the Spanish venue on Friday.
