Queen retains Deauville crown

Satwa Queen just pipped Bahia Breeze to land back-to-back victories in the Darley Prix Jean Romanet at Deauville.

Rae Guest’s mare, ridden by Jimmy Fortune, looked like landing the Group Two prize when she took the lead a furlong and a half out.

However, she was strongly challenged by the Jean de Roualle-trained Satwa Queen and the favourite, ridden by Thierry Thulliez, just wore her down in the dying strides. Dynaforce was third.

Thulliez said: “I was very pleased with her performance and am extremely happy to have won.

“She wandered about a bit in the straight but we are still very much on for Prix de l’Opera (at Longchamp in October).

“I felt that Jimmy (Fortune) came on me quite a bit but she’s courageous and deserves a chance in the Prix de l’Opera.”
