Carberry misses Galway winner

Paul Carberry missed a winning ride aboard Zum See in the Tony O’Malley Memorial Handicap Chase at Galway after failing a breath test before racing.

Carberry was stood down for the evening and will have to wait for the results of a blood test before learning whether he will face any further punishment.

Denis O’Regan stepped in for the the ride aboard the Noel Meade-trained Zum See and he made the most of Carberry’s absence in steering the 6-1 shot to a narrow success.

Jupiter Hollow made a brave bid for victory and he was still in front jumping the last before the long run-in but O’Regan had yet to get serious on the winner.

Rounding the turn, O’Regan switched Zum See to the centre of the track and looked set to pull away in style.

However, Prince Of Pleasure and Torrid Kentavr made a late lunge for success but Zum See just held on by a neck.

The feature Guinness Handicap saw another thrilling finish with Forthright fighting off the late challenge of High Reef.

Mark Loughnane’s charge was sent off a 15-2 chance and Seamus Heffernan made an early move on the six-year-old, taking it up before turning into the straight.

High Reef was just getting into top gear though and Heffernan had to be at his strongest aboard the winner.

Forthright just prevailed by a short head with Consulate, the mount of Kieren Fallon, charging down the outside to finish a further length away in third.

Rekaab (100-30) demonstrated a fine turn of foot to see off 7-4 favourite King In Waiting in the St James’s Gate Race.

The four-year-old, trained by Grand National-winning handler Martin Brassil and ridden by Kevin Manning, stretched out to record a comfortable three-length verdict.

Common Charisma (7-2) ran out a half-length winner of the Galway Publican’s EBF Maiden while Valamareha (7-1) was a clear-cut victor in the Arthur Guinness Handicap.
