Bryan Smart, fresh from tasting Group Three success at Glorious Goodwood on Thursday, has his sights on another big prize with unbeaten two-year-old Maze.

The Thirsk trainer has a smart sprinting sort on his hands in Audi Stakes winner Moorhouse Lad and will look to his Royal Ascot-winning juvenile Maze to carry the flag in the Champagne Stakes at Doncaster on September 15 or the Royal Lodge at Ascot later in the month.

Maze, a son of Dr Fong, made it two wins from as many starts in the Chesham Stakes, in which he edged out Pegasus Again by a neck.

“He has done extremely well since Ascot. He did his first proper piece of work since then last week,” Smart said.

“He’s a very exciting prospect and the plan is to run in either the Champagne Stakes or the Royal Lodge.

“Whether we give him a run before then, we’ll see.”
